This town is a sports town. We all know this to be true. We do enjoy other things now and again, though, in this city. Some of the best gifts for Pittsburghers near and far can be found online, or in a store near you, if you live in Pittsburgh, that is. There is so much to see in this landscape-filled town, so get someone the gift of the view off of Mount Washington, or ice skating at PPG. What more could you ask for from a dazzling Steel City like ours?
–Sports Gifts: Get your ‘Burgher a terrible towel, a Pens ugly Christmas sweater, or a Pirates tee, and they are guaranteed to be pleased.
Ugly Penguins Christmas sweater, anyone?
We broke our first world record here in Pittsburgh almost a week ago, right in Rivers Casino on the North Side. This was Pierogi Day, of course, and Pittsburgh now holds the record for largest pierogi, weighing in at a mighty 123 lbs. Apparently there were at least 60 potatoes used in the process, and special tools and refrigeration units were created to contain this monster. Mrs. T had this to say to the Post-Gazette about the event: “If you ever hear someone talk about (sic) when they had a pierogi, they will always remember the first time because it was something they were doing that they liked.” Wise words, Mrs. T, wise words. How many people do you know that don’t know where they were when they tried their first pierogi?

If you’ve already gotten your Father’s Day gifts for this weekend, you’re way ahead of a lot of us here in the ‘Burgh. And just because you’re last-minute shopping doesn’t mean you are bound to get a crappy gift for your Dad. Most of these gifts I will be suggesting can be bought online (and delivered a little late, if that fits in with your plan for this weekend) or at a store nearby. For the Pittsburgh Dad, who is hardworking, most likely a blue collar worker, nice but slightly surly, although always loving, I’ve got the best gift suggestions for your Father’s Day celebrations.
-Pittsburgh Dad stuff: The Pittsburgh Dad & Co. made a great list of Pittsburgh Dad merchandise that your Dad will cherish forever, found here. This list includes the new Big Ben and Pittsburgh Dad Hot Sauces, a collaboration of these two greats of Pittsburgh. I would also suggest the Pittsburgh Dad 3-2-1 Win Beer for all of those beer-loving dads out there.
-Sports Merchandise: What Pittsburgh Dad doesn’t want more Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins gear? They can never get enough, so check out Amazon.com or any local store for some Pittsburgh sports shirts, hats, and the like for Dad.
Pens tee, anyone?
